Achieving the Best Effects Through Individual Adjustment

Saffron is considered one of the most fascinating medicinal plants in the world. Its valuable ingredients – crocin, crocetin, and safranal – have mood-lifting, anxiolytic, and sleep-promoting effects. Numerous studies confirm these effects with a daily intake of 20 to 30 mg of standardized extract. At the same time, saffron is not only a high-quality spice but also a pharmacologically active substance that acts via the central nervous system, blood vessels, and hormonal processes. Therefore, it is important to also discuss potential side effects and individual reactions.


Tolerability

In clinical studies, saffron was generally very well tolerated. Nevertheless, some users report slight fatigue, dizziness, or circulatory problems – especially if they are already prone to low blood pressure. These effects are explainable: saffron can cause vasodilation and slightly lower blood pressure. A calming, sometimes sedating effect has also been observed, which results from the modulation of the serotonin and GABA systems. This effect is often desired, but in sensitive individuals, it can lead to a feeling of heaviness or daytime fatigue.

Observe Yourself Consciously During Intake

If you notice fatigue or circulatory symptoms after intake, you can simply adjust the dosage. Instead of the full daily amount of 30 drops (corresponding to about 30 mg), a reduction to 10-20 drops per day can already offer noticeable benefits – especially if the focus is on balance and better sleep. Taking it in the evening is also advisable if slight calming or drowsiness occurs during the day. This way, the positive effects – such as on mood, inner calm, and sleep quality – can be optimally utilized without risking unwanted side effects.

Not for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women

We advise against taking saffron during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Although there is no evidence of serious risks at typical dosages, the current body of research is insufficient to confirm safe use during these life stages.


Saffron is an impressive example of the treasures nature has to offer us – provided it is used with awareness and knowledge. Small doses are sometimes enough to unlock its full potential. And precisely therein lies the art of dietary supplementation: supporting the body without overwhelming it.
